Welcome to a new Exhibition series, where the non-represented whishies will take on those that are represented by plush whishies - the 43 listed in the Whishy Profiles, for cricketing bragging rights. Funnily enough, the captains of the two sides are Dorsy and Natalie, who also captained in the most recent Exhibition series, Dorsy's XI v Natalie's XI.
Natalie won the toss and elected to bat under clear skies at End Park, and walked out with Lime to a dusty pitch. Guppy, playing in her first match in over a year, opened the bowling with her offies. On her fourth ball, Natalie slapped one through the covers to open her side's account. Natalie and Lime started steadily, blocking the numerous good balls and scoring off the few loose balls.
Knighto replaced Guppy in the 5th over, and provided immediate effect, Natalie driving in the ai to Rainbow at mid off. Natalie took her place in the pavilion for 7. Rodeo joined Lime at the crease and continued knocking the ball into gaps and hitting the odd boundary to keep the scoreboard ticking. Knighto had his tail up, though, bowling fast and accurate. Lime counter-attacked for a moment, but only managed 18 before nicking off to Dorsy at second slip. 2/32 after 9 overs.
Ayla came to the crease in fine form, but didn't seem as free-flowing as she was in her previous innings, and only scored 10 off 23 before Rainbow cleaned her up with the overall score on 54. Wall scored a brisk 13, before he suffered the same fate, Rainbow sending his off stump cartwheeling. The non-represented team were in trouble, and desperately needed two whishies to step up for a good length of time and put on a big partnership.
Klutzy smashed a four through midwicket on his first ball, and scored 16 off a Wishy over early in his innings, carrying on his last couple of aggressive innings. He took 13 more off Lin a couple of overs later. In just five 5 overs after Wall was dismissed, Klutzy and Rodeo had put on 50 runs together, with Klutzy scoring 38 of them! The scoring dried up in the next five, but Rodeo raised his bat for a chanceless 50 in the 31st over. Klutzy did the same in the next over, scoring his 50 from only 50 balls!
Both batsman having ticked off milestones, the run rate increased, Rodeo taking the lead and scoring the bulk of the runs. It seemed as though both batsman would both get their centuries easily, but Rodeo played outside a Wishy offcutter and fell for 77, much to the shock of everyone watching. This didn't stop Klutzy though, who powered into the 90s without trouble.
In the 51st over, on 98, Klutzy was offered a short delivery directed over middle stump. Klutzy swayed back, and walloped the ball to the legside boundary. His celebration was subdued, unlike the crowd, who obviously appreciated his entertaining 104 ball ton. The certainly weren't cheering when Klutzy was dismissed in the next over, LBW to Wishy (two big breakthroughs for Wishy) for 107.
With nine overs left in the day, Muddy and Lee played out the rest of the day, blocking out three maidens and scoring 18 more runs. The score at the end of Day 1 is 6/279 after 60 overs, with Muddy on 43 and Lee on 4.
I apologise, but there is no scorecard available at the moment.
