WHO ARE THE WHISHIES?

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Back in January of 2009, a young Australian boy was gifted a beautiful, blue plush fish. He fell in love and, naming him Wishy, developed a friendship that would last a lifetime. Wishy's character progressed over time, and soon he was the lovable whishy we know him to be today! More and more whishies are added to the family each year, and there are now 43, each with their own impressive background and unique personality.

WHAT IS A WHISHY?

A whishy is a mythical species of fish that is known primarily for its ability to dwell solely on land. This is possible because a whishy has lungs instead of gills. However, a whishy is still able to swim underwater for approximately 45 minutes before it needs another breath. The other large difference between whishies and other animals is, they live in a civilised world, Strikaland, just as humans live, and communicate just as humans communicate. They talk! Whishies also have a few other interesting attributes... find out more near the bottom of the page. (For example, "Faint Words" and "Switching Bodies."

Whishies are pretty diverse. They come in a huge range of colours and sizes. The most common is a Clownfish Whishy, which looks like a regular striped clownfish (not necessarily orange, though), but has gills. Other types of whishies include, but are not limited to, Star-Chested Whishies, Redfin Whishies, Floral Whishies and Bowling Whishies.

A picture detailing the main body parts of a whishy can be seen below.

REPRESENTATION

There are HUNDREDS of whishies. Forty-three of these are represented by plush whishies that live in the Burns household. All the other whishies are quite literally figures of a very strong imagination. Each also have their own unique characteristics, and many have been sketched on paper. Regular sporting and talent competitions and social events are held between all the whishies, in the country of Strikaland, where they live.

THE CASAWELLS

The original whishy to be represented as a plush fish, Wishy Casawell, was born to William and Wendy Casawell. These two were the first two whishies ever created, and have had 9 children together.

MT. PURA

So how are whishies actually created? This was a mystery for several years until the large eruption of Mt. Pura in mid 2013. Obsevers found almost one hundred whishy eggs by the volcano that had been spat out during the eruption. These eggs were taken to nurturies around Strikaland and soon hatched into happy and healthy whishies. It is believed this is how William and Wendy, the two original whishies, came into the world. The volcano erupts every 1-2 years and releases 25-50 new eggs into the world. These whishies will either be adopted by other families, or live to fight for themselves, before marrying and starting their own families.
