Dorsy's XI openers Berry and Finnie walked out to the centre of the Strikaland International Sporting Complex with one goal in mind; chase down the target of 272 Natalie's XI set a couple of days ago. Natalie opened the bowling with two spinners, including herself, for an over each. 8 runs were taken off the first over of the innings (Natalie's), and 5 were taken off the next. Wishy came into the attack replacing Natalie, and immediately dried up the runs. In the 5th o ver, Finnie slashed at a short-of-a-length ball and managed only to edge it to Klutzy's right at 2nd slip.
Both the bowlers and the batsman plugged away for 5 overs, before Lime was brought back into the attack, and smashed for 17 off her over. She was taken out of the attack, and her replacement, Snoope, picked up the wicket of Cheese for a quickfire 27 in his first over. Berry and Ayla worked on building a partnership, and scored at a good rate (over the required in fact), for 10 overs, creaming anything with width outside off stump.
Natalie's XI needed a bit of luck to ressurect their chances, and fortuntaely for them, they got just that. Berry looked in fine form, but going deep in her crease to cut Natalie, she played a bit-too-late cut and smashed her bat into the off stump. She was gone for 47, with Dorsy's XI on 3/123. Dorsy came, and looked good, smacking a ball off the middle of the bat through the covers, but knocked one straight to short leg, where Carrot snapped up the chance. 4/139. Angel only managed 8 runs before Spine bowled her. 5/149, and all of a sudden, Natalie's XI have their noses in front!
Dorsy's XI didn't have all that much batting to come, but the few batsman left were quality. Ayla raised her bat for fifty from just 40 balls, but was made to rue the moment when she was caught behind next ball off the bowling of Wishy, for 49 - a miscommunication somewhere, even with the big scoreboard.
Muddy was left to fight with the tail, but Dorsy's XI reached 200 6 wickets down in the 35th over, leaving them 72 runs to get with 90 balls remaining. Muddy and Coral worked away, Muddy the aggressor but Coral playing her important part. In 10 overs, they scored another 50 runs, and required only 20 runs to win from 30 balls. Muddy, against his will, ended up conceding a maiden in the 46th over, a beautiful piece of bowling from Snoope. The pressure mounted, and mounted some more when Coral was bowled by Galaxy 2. All of a sudden, Dorsy's XI required 18 runs at a run-a-ball.
Snoope bowled three dot balls to Muddy in the 48th over, before Muddy cut a shorter one for a pressure relieving four, and then got to the other end quickly with a single. Buster scored a another single, leaving them 12 runs off 12 balls. Buster, with his outside off stump stance, climped a ball on middle stump through midwicket for three. Muddy then hit two twos, and then a single. Buster managed a single off the last ball of the over, leaving them only 3 to win off the last over.
Kayn had the momumental task of bowling the last over. Buster hit 2 through the legside off the second ball of the over after hitting the first to short leg. He then fell, however, plumb LBW. Knighto came to the crease; not the perfect batsman for the situation but he'd have to do. Knighto hit the first one to silly mid off, and only managed an inside edge to a straightish midwicket off the next. The match had come to its peak. The peak in excitement. The peak in pressure. The peak off intensity. All bottoms were at the peak of the edge of their seats! Knighto needed one to win - if he couldn't do it, the teams would compete in the Super Over! Kayn needed to bowl the perfect ball, give nothing away whatsoever.
Kayn bowled a ball on a 5th stump line, and Knighto came forward to drive. Lengthwise, it was just short of a half-volley, and Knighto smashed it, this time through the field! The fielders didn't bother giving chase; it didn't matter, anyway - the ball rocketed to the fence! Dorsy's XI sprinted onto the field as Knighto and Muddy, longtime friends, hugged in ectasy.
Dorsy's XI had one the match by 2 wickets with 0 balls remaining! Muddy was awarded Whishy of the Match, for his match-winning 72 not out from 78 balls, with 7 fours, guiding his side to victory. To view the full scorecard of a crazy game, click here.
